The Common Ground meetings were convened in 1996 by the Ford Foundation to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among Strengthening Fragile Families Initiative (SFFI) grantees that focus on issues facing low-income, non custodial fathers and their families and advocates from the domestic violence community.

Discussions are held bi-annually with fatherhood practitioners, policymakers, researchers, grant-makers and practitioners, who provide prevention and intervention to both males and females, around domestic and family violence. The forum provides an opportunity to identify "common ground" among the organizations and is an avenue for an open exchange of ideas around domestic and family violence which impact the policy, research, practice of complex issues surrounding fathers and their fragile families.
